10/4/10

October 4, 2010

We had fun on this rainy day! We postponed our Bauman’s Apple Butter field trip for a nicer day. We’ll try again on Weds. the 13th.

Today we had a blast painting an arm and hand brown to make our trees. We learned that apples come from trees and have seeds in them that make more trees. Apple seeds make apple trees! We tasted apple and found out it was yummy. Some even decided they did like the skin.

We reviewed Aa & Bb and did some story predictions with our book “When the Leaf Blew In.” We sang our fun songs and used our bodies to move in funny ways! It’s a good thing our body has so many bones!

Today we had some fun cutting things we like out of magazines and playing with links and blocks at the tables. We read The Apple Pie Tree book and learned about where apples come from and noticed picture details in stories. We learned about writing Bb and it’s sound and reviewed Aa. We wrote the letter Bb, played with balls, participated in show-n-share, and played dress-up a lot with our friends.   We had fun singing our songs – “Head and Shoulders” and “I’m so wonderfully made.”  At the end of the day we took some turns sitting on the “ABC” seat and singing our ABC’s. As always we learned how to work together, take turns, wait for others, share, and use our words to communicate.

Today we read how Tigger didn’t like his stripes  because no one else had stripes. We learned how we are all special and different from each other. We learned about the letter B and it’s sound. We also learned more about our bones and saw a funny skeleton. We traced A & B, traced an outline of a banana with a yellow crayon and colored.  We learned how to share and work together with other children. We learned to take turns and wait our turn. We designed the picture of  our bodies in the hallway by adding features each one saw as important. Some children added hair, eyes, and teeth.  We enjoyed rhythm and beat as children took initiative to lead the others in music exploration with instruments.

Scholastic Book orders were distributed and permission slips for Monday’s field trip.  We are in need of parents to help transport and assist. Thank you for your orders!!!! and for your sale of the Kid Stuff coupon books.  All books and $ are due in.

Today we learned about the letter A, it’s sounds, and how to write it. We practiced recognizing and writing our names. Outlines of our bodies were traced on big paper. We played with acorns and discovered their insides! Two girls found worms inside! We kept them in our bug keeper. We sang “Them bones…,” “Head and Shoulders, Knees and toes,” and “I’m so wonderfully made.”

Boscov’s Fundraiser coupons will be sent home. Again there is no obligation to buy.  Kid Stuff coupon books or money are due back. Don’t forget to send in your pictures as soon as possible. As we move into learning about our families, the pictures will be used. Scholastic orders are due too. Thank you for all your support!

Today we had fun reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! We practiced writing our name and we drew parts of a coconut tree and cut them out and glued them on paper to make a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree.  Also we traced our bodies on the floor onto big paper! We’ll work on these more next week. We played with our friends and played outside! We had a great day!

Weds. 9/15/10

September 15, 2010

Today we had fun learning more about each other and our families. We read a Mercer Mayer book called, The New Baby and drew pictures of our families.  We sang “Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, “Down by the Station”, “ABC’s , “Jesus Loves Me”, and “1,2,3, You are Friends With Me.”  We enjoyed getting to know each other more in our class! We played outside and each child showed the class something that was special to them during our “show – n – share” time. Then we learned to share our special toys. We worked on ‘movement’ and I was quite impressed with their ability! Next week we will learn more about our bodies, how we are special, and the letter A!

Welcome to a New Year!

September 15, 2010

I’m excited as we start this new year! We have some new children that have joined us! Our overall theme for the year is “Take off into learning!,” but we will follow the children’s interests and discover this year into many different themes.  Our first ‘theme’ is about “Me, My family, & my friends.” In previous years we have kept themes at a month or less, but this year we will carry out our them until we’ve gained new understandings and our interest has moved on. It looks like Acorns will find its way into these beginning weeks as well. The children have had fun collecting acorns and this has raised questions as to what do we do with them? and who eats them?

This year we are collecting some of the each child’s work to be included in their portfolio as well as pictures of our learning. Feel free to give me any feedback or ask questions on this blog.
